South Africa’s small, medium and micro enterprises (SMMEs) are the beating heart of our economy — yet too many operate in isolation, without the tools, structure, or visibility they deserve.

Who we are

The National SMME Federation of South Africa (NPC) — registration 2025/699119/08 — is a non-profit organization dedicated to the revival and sustainable growth of SMMEs nationwide, particularly in townships, informal settlements, and rural areas.

We align our mission with both South Africa’s National Development Plan (NDP) Vision 2030 and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — the global framework for sustainable progress adopted by all UN member states. This synergy connects our local mission to the wider Global South agenda, ensuring that community-level transformation contributes to inclusive, worldwide development.

The All-in-One SMME Initiative

The Initiative

The All-in-One SMME Initiative is our flagship campaign to harmonize and formalize the SMME landscape through a Metropolitan–District development model inspired by the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE). This model introduces a “Mini JSE” — a digital ecosystem where local business performance is tracked, analyzed, and showcased through a 24/7 SMME Television & Digital Platform, promoting transparency, accountability, and investor confidence.

Key Objectives:

Unite all SMMEs within each municipality into a Local SME Network Ecosystem that records growth and development in real time.

Provide training, mentorship, and capacity development to entrepreneurs and local business chambers.

Mobilize funding and partnerships that enable community-based industrial projects and social-commercial enterprises.

Promote ISO-aligned self-regulation to ensure ethical, standardized operations across the SMME sector.

Foster digital inclusion and data transparency, giving investors a real-time view of local economies.

Our Approach

Our work follows a structured, data-driven process that combines technology, governance, and collaboration for measurable results.

Research & Data Collection

We conduct nationwide Qualitative–Quantitative Research Surveys (QQRS) using Computer Assisted Personal Interview (CAPI) systems to capture reliable SMME data. This research enables informed decision-making, business planning, and development strategies.

Organization & Representation

We establish independent local SMME business chambers within every municipality and regional area. Each chamber is elected and managed by local entrepreneurs, ensuring democratic representation and accountability under each Federation branch.

Business Planning & Investment

Using CAPI-derived data, we create aggregate regional and metropolitan business plans that feed into provincial and national strategies. Federation offices at all levels mobilize investment to turn these plans into sustainable growth.

Governance & Self-Regulation

Every Federation office operates through a dual-structure model:
SMALL Structure: Elected SMME chamber representatives focused on governance and oversight.
BIG Structure: The professional body organ (Pty Ltd) responsible for long-term sustainability, compliance, and social-commercial operations.

Collaboration & Synergy

We work hand-in-hand with government institutions, private investors, and community organizations, believing that real nation-building can only happen through unity, not isolation.
